In a heartrending turn of events, Kunwar Sarvesh Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the Moradabad Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, passed away at the age of 72. This unfortunate incident occurred just a day after the Moradabad constituency went to polls in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 20, 2024.

Sarvesh Singh, a prominent figure in Moradabad’s political landscape, was a five-time MLA from the Thakurdwara assembly segment and had also served as the Member of Parliament (MP) from Moradabad from 2014 to 2019. His demise has left a void in the political circles of Uttar Pradesh, and the BJP party has lost a stalwart who was known for his strong leadership and deep roots within the community.

The news of Kunwar Sarvesh Singh’s passing was confirmed by BJP MLA from Moradabad city Ritesh Gupta, who stated that Singh died due to a heart attack at Delhi’s AIIMS. The suddenness of his death has sent shockwaves across the political spectrum, with leaders and members of the BJP expressing their grief and condolences on various platforms.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his shock over the demise of the party’s Moradabad candidate. In a statement, he described the loss as “irreparable” for the BJP family and offered his prayers for the departed soul and his bereaved family. The Chief Minister also acknowledged Singh’s contributions to the party and the constituency, emphasizing the void left by his absence.

The unfortunate timing of Singh’s death has also raised questions about the voting process in Moradabad. However, the Election Commission of India has clarified that the demise of a candidate after the conclusion of voting does not hamper the poll process. The counting of votes for the Moradabad constituency will take place on June 4, as per the schedule.

In a show of solidarity and unity, leaders from various political parties, including the Samajwadi Party (SP), have expressed their condolences over the passing of Kunwar Sarvesh Singh. The SP, which had fielded ST Hasan against Singh in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, acknowledged Singh’s contributions to Moradabad and offered their prayers for the departed soul.

Kunwar Sarvesh Singh was born on December 23, 1952, in Thakurdwara, Uttar Pradesh. He was the son of Raja Rampal, a four-time MLA from Thakurdwara and a former MP from Amroha. Singh’s political career was marked by his commitment to the development and welfare of his constituency. His passing is a significant loss not only for the BJP but also for the people of Moradabad, who had placed their trust in his leadership.

As the nation mourns the loss of a dedicated public servant, it is crucial to remember the legacy of Kunwar Sarvesh Singh and the impact he had on his community. His contributions to the political landscape of Uttar Pradesh and the Moradabad constituency will be remembered for years to come.
