A man was shot dead in Punjab’s Phagwara on Monday night, police said. The victim, identified as Pankaj Duggal, was 40 years old.
According to police, the attacker rang the doorbell at Duggal’s house and told his son that he wanted to meet his father. When Duggal came out of the house, the attacker opened fire on him and fled the scene in a car.
Duggal was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act. They are investigating the motive behind the killing.
Details of the attack in Punjab
The attack took place at around 10:30 pm on Monday at Duggal’s house in New Mansa Devi Nagar in Phagwara.
The attacker, who was wearing a mask, rang the doorbell and told Duggal’s son that he wanted to meet his father. When Duggal came out of the house, the attacker opened fire on him.
Duggal was shot multiple times in the chest and abdomen. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police have registered a case under sections 302 (murder), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
They are investigating the motive behind the killing. Police are also scanning CCTV footage from the area in an attempt to identify the attacker.
The killing has shocked the residents of Phagwara.
“This is a very unfortunate incident,” said a local resident. “We demand that the police catch the culprits and bring them to justice.”
The killing has raised concerns about security in Phagwara.
